I want to fucking hurt them back

I feel sick, those poor people... The English will have no clue how to go abt this. [Actually, they seem to have a clue, as it turns out. Don't know quite what I was thinking when I wrote that, just think WWII and what a stiff upper lip the whole country kept, and how bravely they fought. Londoners keep their wits. Replace London w Lisbon... I can't even begin to imagine.] This is London, London is not TA, everyone knows that.

I'm afraid everywhere can be Tel Aviv now. I'm afraid the Madrid train explosion last year saw the last of our European innocence. Western innocence, maybe. I think the Western world will soon find out what it's like to be Israeli. The day there is a bombing in the US - and I am sure there will be onem, it's a matter of time - is the day the world will FINALLY change its tune. And then maybe things will finally change, and people will realise the Arabs aren't helpless and misguided, and the Palestinians aren't bereft and valuable. Funny how "identity" can be created out of literally nothing, and how said "identity" can be directly proportional to the existing infrastructures built by another - TRUE - identity... Yes, those poor, poor Palestinians. Why can't they ALL blow themselves up at the same time? That'd both make a statement and rid the world of vermin. There will soon be Arabs on the streets in every Arab country celebrating another victory of God over us infidels [UPDATE: 5h after the bombings, there are Palestinians dancing in the streets. Shocker. I'm sure BBC and CNN will do an in-depth reporting of it, as they are wont to. Yes.]. No, why should I worry that the Muslim European population is increasing at a phenomenal rate? They are so flexible when it comes to honour killings, so well-integrated in their cute little ghettos, so willing to realise they live in LAY countries, fucking lay countries, it's such a bonus, really, to have them around. FUCKING PIGS! Yes, the choice of animal is on purpose. Bite me.

Call me what you will. There may be Arabs who are fabulous, dignified, educated people. But the notion of Islamic Arabs as a whole? I fear and despise them. Hell, I don't like my Porties either most of the time but at least they don't behave like fucking cowards who use their young and even their retarded to get what they want at the expense of their lives, and target the blameless. They soak up all that is good in the West and then use it to maim and kill. They are vile and cowardly and really really despicable and I wish they'd just drop dead, I truly do.

The police have admitted to only 6 dead. Six is ludicrous, there were several buses blown up and tube carriages also. Six synchronised explosions altogether. There are many, many more dead. And then there are still all those who will still die, and all those others who will have lost their eyesight, their legs, their hand, their spleen, their sanity.

A fucking waste of breath is what they are, those fucking cowards. FUCKING COWARDS! I am so mad and heartsick I don't even know what to do with myself.

[Aaron, now would be a good time for you to comment and say you are all right. Your defunct site has no email and I deleted the old ones so have no way to contact you. Would be nice to hear from you, period.]

To my view, fundamentalism is at the root of much of the evil, or is it that evil is at the root of much of the fundamentalism? Muslim, Christian, Mary Kay Cosmetics, what have you. It all just makes me sad on its varied and horrible levels. Fucking fuckers.

What will happen is this: The whole world will once again agree that it was wrong of the British to go to Iraq. Otherwise, these poor Arabs wouldn't have been obliged to blow up a few unsuspecting Brits in return.
And anyway, what Arabs do in Spain and the UK has nothing to do with the Arab-Israeli war. That Muslims in Thailand these days cut Buddhists' heads off as a part of the new Jihadi lifestyle is not related.
In Europe, it is terrorism (albeit understandable and perhaps warranted even), in Israel it is a legitimate struggle for freedom and sovereignty, and against oppression. And remember, these poor people HAVE no other means of fighting a superior enemy. We must show more understanding and empathy, once we eliminate the desperation and hardships in their lives they will come to love us.

Really.

Hey. I'm ok. The city is going nuts but London is doing fine. Check my blog, or bbc.co.uk for more details.

People in London have been expecting a terrorist attack ever since 9/11. We've been waiting and waiting. Thankfully I wasn't on a train today and I'm miles from the capital. No one is innocent here.

Why did they target the underground. Normal people use it!! And just after we won the Olympic bid too, we were celebrating. I don't think the capital had been so pepped up in ages. Yeah, its the extremist Arabs' fault - the European branch of the Umbrella group of terrorists known as Al Quaida have made their statement. Good for them. I don't know what to say. I just want to talk to someone right now.

Every place is Tel Aviv. The only difference is that Tel Aviv knows it's in Israel...New York, London, Madrid, Paris, Lisbon, etc. etc. think they're somewhere else. No place to hide, guys.

I'd agree that fundamentalists of any sort are pretty bad, but the 'Christian' ones in the US don't blow themselves up, just work to force the rest of us to be like them. (oh, forgot about Kansas City)
The only benefit to a suicide bomber - they usually only do it once. but I guess once is enough if you aren't out in a field by yourself.

Oh, geez, I did not want my first comment on your blog to be like this (maybe it's my second?), and I hope you won't hate me. I see and enjoy your comments and thoughts on lots of blogs I read, and have found your blog funny, poignant, thought-provoking, and full of personality.

After reading today's post, I was even sadder and more confused than when I started, though. How can it help anything to demonize an entire people? How does it make things better? What will it accomplish other than fueling a terrible fire and causing more senseless loss of lives? Innocent people exist in all genders, colors, creeds, orientations. So do evil ones. Can't we focus on the problems instead of the people? The actions and policies that lead to devastation, death, horror?

I really am asking because I want to have a dialogue, to understand.

Thanks for reading,
Jen

At least it's brought you out of lurkdom, Jen. You might feel happier reading the post above but. I am the first person to recognise I am biased. I used to be less you know. Living in Israel was an eye opener in terms of how things are portrayed in the media, and talking to people abt the Middle East is really something I no longer do bcs it is pointless, especially when 95% have no clue - none - abt recent historical events.

I am not demonizing one people. When I said I wanted to hurt them I really did. Like we sometimes say we want to hit someone. But I wouldn't, see. That is not how I am. I fear them, and with good cause I think. I believe ther are some Muslims who are amazingly decent people, be they Arabs or not. I believe the same abt some Arabs, be they Muslims or not. But Arabs as a whole, the majority, the ones living in Islamic countries and even many in Europe, how could I not be scared? They think it is all right and indeed mandatory to kill for honour, their women are allowed nothing, they use children as human shields, they play tapes from the morgue after the cartoons, they have vitriolic speeches on the radio regarding the Jews and the need to annihilate them, they see us as the enemy and will only be happy when the West is vanquished - how could I not fear them? I've written this: http://lioness-pride.blogspot.com/2004/10/just-dont-talk-to-me.html but I have also written this: http://lioness-pride.blogspot.com/2004/10/for-record.html

I do think it is a bit naive to think that "Innocent people exist in all genders, colors, creeds, orientations." Innocence also needs to be learnt and that learning is not available in Islamic countries. They are not taught acceptance, there is no grey, no acceptance of differences and indeed, should you try and preach it, as a native, you'd find something very terrible happening to you. "Colaborators" have horrible fates. So I really don't know what to tell you. I used to think like you, I no longer do.

You may also want to read Treppenwitz's post re the bombing, and the comments: http://bogieworks.blogs.com/treppenwitz/2005/07/we_interrupt_th.html#comments
Because, in this case, the people and their mentality ARE the problem. And people and the problems they cause can never be separated, they are one and the same.

Lioness, I'm glad someone said all the things I wish I had the power to say.

For so long people went on and on about how poor and bereft those in Palestine were/are/will be. Until they realize that they're getting goods and money and fuel etc from OTHERS surrounding them that horribly incorrect view will perpetuate.

It makes me feel sick.

'Honour killings'? Must be an oxymoron. There's no Honour in killing anyone...and I highly doubt anyone's G-d would would approve.

I understand this is an act of extreme fundamentalism -- I get that. What I don't get? What really gets me? The people they kill are the people who are absolutely futile in changing anything. Sure, we can vote, but we can't change policy or get the 'right' people elected. They all have agendas of their own.

Those who are dying are just people. Innocent people. Children.

It makes me sad. And what's worse is when 'very open immigration policies' overlook background checks in order to encourage a small country's growth. And that small country thinks it's completely 'protected' from terrorist attacks simply because of location.

Sigh. Very, very sad today.

Hope you're well Lioness.

I have to say that I agree with Diana: any Fundamentalism is a dangerous and evil thing. We see it in so many different places.

Obviously, you have a very different perspective on this issue from having lived in Israel, and understand much more about the complexities involved than I do.

It just makes me really uncomfortable when people start to label an entire country or culture or ethnic group.

I may be incredibly naive, but I think that on the whole, people are just people and all they really want is a decent life and the best for their kids.

Yes, the things that some people are willing to do are absolutely sickening. Horrific. I agree with you on this point. Extrapolating from that to apply it to a group of people as a whole (or even as a majority) I believe does nothing but perpetuate the climate of fear and hatred which you rail against.

I hate the fact that we live in a world where there is so much fear that some people believe they have to do these barbaric things. I hate it for probably the same reasons you do.

What strikes me, though, is that in reality (oooh, I'm gonna get flamed for this) the US administration is not that different. And since we have troops in Iraq, neither is the Australian govt.

Jen, I am a bit confused. What do we disagree about, fundamentally? I really want to know. I am sad too but you see, this is not a new feeling. I realise it's different when it's Europe for many. After living in Israel I realised it was only a matter of time till we were all Israelis, as it were. True, to some extent it's still different even to me. 1) it's home, and it's LONDON. 2) I knopw how scared everyone else will start to be as well and that is a painful feeling. But basically I've expected it. Soon it will be other European coutries and the US. And then the world will go absolutely crazy bcs Bush can and he already is demented in his inferiority and power. I've just read what daniel wrote above and I fear he may very well be right. I hope you're well too. I hope we all will be.

Panda, it doesn't even take much extrapolation. As I expected, there was dancing on the streets in the Arab world. This is how they are formatted. And Panda, this is the crucial thing: even those who are not are not alllowed to say so, are not allowed to fight for it. They'd be tortured and killed. This is no extrapolation, these are facts. I know it's hard for us to undetrstand this mentality but it exists. When Barak had the courage to say "Ebough dying already" and pulled the kids, the soldiers, from South Lebanon I aplauded. No more killings, see (well, the Lebanese were left at the mercy of the Hizbollah). He went against a major portion of the country to do it. It took balls. For the Arabs, that was a sign of weakness, always is. We do not share the same cultural and social values, we do not think alike. Makes me feel hopeless beyond words.

Don't get me started on the troll that rules us all, I can't even think abt it.

Thanks for clearing up the Jen confusion! And thanks for explaining in such detail.

I can't say everything I want to right now (huge tech problems at work; Cait's birthday today; and sperm drama ALL at the same time) but wanted to let you know that I appreciate your response.

And althought I *DO* truly believe that there are innocent people in any group labeled en masse (and that every person is born innocent), your comment made me re-read what I wrote, and in that context what I was really trying to say was "good" people. I didn't really mean to get into innocent vs. guilty - different concept and more loaded than I meant to be, but I was typing faster than I was thinking.

There are both good and evil Arabs, Palestinians, Republicans, Democrats, men, women, atheists, Jews, Catholics, lesbians, straights, etc., etc. Labeling or dismissing groups of people seems to me an abandonment of hope for the future of humanity.

I am appalled and horrified by the tragedy yesterday. I have wept for the lost and ruined lives and I am sure I will again. The people who did this and other terrorist acts ARE evil, and what they DID is evil. But I don't see peace or resolution coming from assigning the evil to all people who have some ethnic or religious identity in common with the actual terrorists.

I'm already going on longer than I have time for. This is very compelling and I want to keep discussing. I'll be back!

If only empathy and understanding worked--but that is not what the goal is. The goal is domination--a return to 1000 yrs ago. Islam is a religion that calls for conversion of the world.

A study of the Koran will tell you this is not a peaceful religion.
I find it ironic how Christians are held to such scorn because people fear they want to impose their values but yet no one seems to grasp the religious roots of terror.

Not goverments--not the people but yet the terrorists will tell you. We in the west find it hard to understand that there is a mind set from a religious ideal feeding these acts.

We have allowed terrorists groups to enter the political arena and thus make them and their demands legit. The political face is in stark contrast to what they go back and say to their people.

No--not all thse folks belong to the terror groups but by their silence they are complicit.

I have been writing about this for a year on my blog--I fear there are blinders on western goverments.
A simple bit a historical study would answer so much.

Bush--wow--the first prez who has (if he continues on this corse) betrayed Israel. The two state solution is a joke and it boggles my mind that people do not realize how small Israel is and how much middle east land the Arabs control--but yet--we are going give them more to a group of people that do not exist.

There are no Palestinians--I will get flamed but I am sorry--there are no such group of people with a legit claim to any land.

I stood on Jaffa Rd in 2003 as a bus blew up--I am sorry--it is not about US policys, Iraq, poverty etc..it is about eliminating an entire people (the Jews).
There is NO justification ever for any of this--none.

They kill their own--all the monies sent for aide have helped no poor palestinian. It serves the terror groups to keep these people in poverty amd anger. Yet it was announced this week that we are sending millions more. I could just scream--we are paying for our next attack.

"What I don't get? What really gets me? The people they kill are the people who are absolutely futile in changing anything. Sure, we can vote, but we can't change policy or get the 'right' people elected. They all have agendas of their own."

They are not interested in political change and going after the population instills fear--that is what is intended.
Short of becoming an Islamic nation---we will not be safe.

I should stop--I could go on forever.
Sorry Lioness--if I overstepped.
